The source of an inflight fire can be difficult to ascertain, even when there seems to be ample evidence (see Chapters 5 and 6). But painstaking reconstructive efforts usually solve the puzzle. Even with charred or fragmented cockpit instruments, it is sometimes possible to determine the indicator's position at impact.
